The City

Tamarindo is a small town and district located on the Nicoya Peninsula on the Northern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica in the Province of Guanacaste. We locals call it “Playa Tamarindo”. Once very charming and sleepy fisherman village, became quickly popular after the movie “The Endless Summer” featuring Robert August – the pioneer from California that turned his surfing passion into one of the most popular and quickly developing sports in history. If you are interested to see him be sure to check out his shop and surf boards shaping.

According to Lonely Planet; Tamarindo is not only one of the fastest growing small towns in Costa Rica but the place to go to for top surf and party. Small, charming, yet still hassling and bustling small town has plenty of bars, shops, restaurants, hostels and hotels. Despite its party town reputation Tamarindo is more than just drinking and surfing. It forms part of the Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas de Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Tamarindo has amazing array of tours to offer from relaxation to action packed adventures. While you are visiting be sure to check out some of the nearby beaches such us Playa Avellanas, Playa Conchal, Playa Grande, Playa Junquial, and many other all within an hour drive. While you are staying in our Pura Vida MINI Hostel – ask our knowledgeable staff members on the off the beaten path fun activities to do while you are visiting. Also be sure to check out our page about suggested itineraries around San Jose and Costa Rica as there is a lot of information on the things to do and see while visiting Costa Rica.

The Weather

Do not worry about the weather…that displays on your phone or computer! For the most part, in Tamarindo, we have dry and sunny weather even during our rainy season. Matter of fact the BEST time to visit Costa Rica and Tamarindo in general is during rainy season. As everything is green and fresh, there are not so many tourists, the restaurants and bars have specials and the hotels and hostels are running super low prices. Come and see for yourself!
